🟪 Past Indefinite Tense (Simple Past)

Used for completed actions at a specific time in the past.

Subject + Verb(2nd form)
For regular verbs: add -ed

Regular vs Irregular Verbs

Regular Verbs (add -ed):

  • work → worked (کام کیا)
  • play → played (کھیلا)

  • go → went (گیا)
  • eat → ate (کھایا)

Negative & Questions

-ed Pronunciation Rules

  • /t/ sound: after voiceless sounds (p, k, s, sh, ch) → worked, helped
  • /d/ sound: after voiced sounds (b, g, v, z, m, n) → played, called
  • /ɪd/ sound: after t or d sounds → wanted, needed

🟪 Past Continuous Tense

Used for actions that were in progress at a specific time in the past.

Past Continuous + Past Indefinite

When one action interrupts another:

Past Continuous (longer action) + when + Past Indefinite (shorter action)

Example: I was watching TV when she called.

میں ٹی وی دیکھ رہا تھا جب اس نے فون کیا۔
